Your wheel.
Your tools.
Less crap everywhere.

Dirthead makes modular storage for the pottery wheel. One mounting hook stays on the splashpan. Clip on boxes, trays and whatever comes next.

Fits Shimpo and Brent pottery wheels. See the exact models.

  • 03 AccessorySwap boxes and trays on and off the same hook.

It comes apart on purpose

The mounting hook attaches to the splashpan. Accessories hang from it. Stack the pieces you actually use, then change the stack when the work changes.

Throwing today, trimming tomorrow — swap the accessory, keep the hook. Change wheels and you swap the hook instead.

Single, double and triple Dirthead mounting hooks side by side.
01 —Hook

Pick the hook that fits your wheel's splashpan. It stays there.

02 —Accessory

Hang on the thing you need. Box, tray, divider, whatever comes next.

03 —Swap

Change the accessory without rebuilding the whole setup.

Build the stack you need. Change it when you need something else.

The first batch is small. Very small.

One potter, one printer, and a suspicious amount of time spent measuring splashpans. Everything below is printing now, in Los Angeles.

Complete sets come with the hook or you can build your own set. Already have a hook and just need the accessory? — You can buy that too.

Made for the studio. Not the dishwasher.

PLA is tough enough for slip, water and daily studio abuse, and it has exactly one enemy. Heat.

Rinse it, wipe it, keep it away from heat.

Material and care
MaterialMatte PLA, printed to order
CleaningRinse in the sink and wipe it down. Slip comes off easily while it's still wet; dried slip needs a soak and a brush.
HeatThe one that matters. PLA softens well below boiling and warps for good. No kiln, no heat gun, no dishwasher, no hot car, no long spells in direct sun. A warped hook will not sit right on the pan again.
WaterSplashes, rinsing and sitting in a wet splashpan are all fine. Don't leave it soaking for days.
FinishVisible layer lines and printed-part texture. Not an injection-moulded finish.
ToleranceRoughly ±1 mm, so a hook can be snug on one pan and easy on another.
Not rated forFood, drink, heat, load-bearing use, or holding anything you would be upset to drop.

Does it fit your wheel?

The hook is the only part that has to match your wheel, and it is the cheapest part to replace when the wheel changes.

One potter. One printer. One increasingly organized splashpan.

Dirthead started with a simple problem: my tools kept ending up in the slop bucket. So I designed a mounting system around the splashpan, printed it, used it, found the annoying parts, and did it again.

Small runs mean I can change things quickly and actually listen when someone tells me a product needs fixing.

Questions worth answering

Which pottery wheels does it fit?

The hook is made for a specific splashpan profile, so it's the one part that has to match your wheel. These are the wheels supported in the first run:

Shimpo
VL-WhisperVL-Lite
Brent
Model BModel CModel CXCModel #16
Shimpo Aspire
In design — not shipping yet

On anything else, email the wheel model to questions@dirtheadla.com and you'll get a straight answer before you pay for anything.

What do Single, Double and Triple mean?

They're the widths of hooks, boxes and trays. A Double is twice as wide as a Single, and a Triple is three times as wide. An accessory hangs from any hook of its own size or bigger, or from smaller hooks side by side.

What hangs from what
AccessoryHangs from
SingleAny hook: Single, Double or Triple
DoubleA Double or Triple hook, or two Single hooks
TripleA Triple hook, a Double plus a Single hook, or three Single hooks

A Triple hook can also carry a Single and a Double at once — that's how Combo A works.

How do I take care of it?

Rinse it in the sink and wipe it down — slip comes off easily while it's still wet, and dried slip needs a soak and a brush. Keep it away from heat: PLA softens well below boiling, so no kiln, no heat gun, no hot car and no long spells in direct sun. A warped hook won't sit right on the pan again.

Do you ship, or is it pickup only?

Pickup only in Los Angeles for the first run. Shipping is coming down the line.

How long does an order take?

Everything is printed to order in small batches on one printer, so lead time depends on what's already on the plate. I'll email you myself within about a week to confirm your total and a ready-by date, and if anything slips you'll hear it from me rather than finding out by waiting.

How do I pay?

Nothing is charged on this site. Once I've confirmed your total and a ready-by date by email, you pay in cash, Zelle or Venmo, then collect your order in Los Angeles. Prices include sales tax. I only ever ask for payment by email from orders@dirtheadla.com — a payment request from anywhere else isn't me.

What if it doesn't fit, or it's broken?

If a hook doesn't fit a wheel on the supported list, or something is broken when you collect it, I'll replace it. Tell me within 7 days of pickup. The details, including what to send me, are on the returns and fit page.

What is it made of?

Matte PLA. Expect visible layer lines and printed-part texture rather than an injection-moulded finish, and roughly a millimetre of dimensional tolerance.

What's the difference between a complete set and building my own?

A complete set is a box or tray that already includes the hook it needs, so it works straight out of the bag. Build your own is the same pieces on their own — hooks, boxes and trays — for people who already own a hook, or want a different mix.

Let's make an order.

Add what you want to the list and send it over. I'll confirm the total, a ready-by date and where to collect it, and we'll sort payment from there.

What should I print next?

If you're currently using a bucket, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape, I'd love to help solve for it. Dream tools welcome too.

Made in LA

Dirthead boxes and trays in every finish, arranged around a pottery wheel

Dirthead started with a simple problem: my tools kept ending up in the slop bucket.

I wanted storage that stayed with the wheel without taking over the wheel. So I designed a mounting system around the splashpan, printed the first version, used it, found the annoying parts, redesigned it, and did it again.

The result is a growing set of boxes, trays and other studio accessories that share the same basic system. Change the accessory when your work changes. Change the hook when your wheel changes. Keep the rest.

Everything is designed, tested and printed in Los Angeles. Right now that means one potter and one printer. It also means I can make small runs, change things quickly, and actually listen when someone tells me a product needs fixing.

If you have a better idea, tell me. If I print it, I'll probably use one too.

Terms & disclaimers

The unglamorous part. By sending an inquiry or buying anything from Dirthead, you agree to what's below.

Who you're buying from

Dirthead is a one-potter operation in Los Angeles, California, making 3D-printed accessories for other potters. Nothing here is affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any wheel, kiln, or tool manufacturer. Brand names are used only to describe what a part physically fits.

How orders work

This site takes inquiries, not payments. Prices shown are estimates for the current run and can change at any time; nothing is reserved, promised, or sold until I confirm it by email and payment clears. Pick-up only in the Los Angeles area — no shipping. If an order isn't collected, I'll send two reminders; if I haven't heard from you 60 days after it's ready, I'll refund what you paid and may sell the item. Everything is printed to order, so I can't take back a change of mind. Fit and defect replacements are covered on the returns and fit page.

What you're getting

Products are printed in PLA plastic, one at a time, by hand. Expect visible layer lines, seams, color variation between batches, and dimensional tolerances of roughly ±1mm. Product images may be renders or photos of earlier prints and are illustrative only — the item you receive may differ in finish, color, and detail.

Intended use & safety

These are studio organizers for holding your own tools. They are not food-safe, not dishwasher-safe, not toys, not load-bearing hardware, and not safe near heat: PLA softens and deforms well below boiling, so keep products out of direct sun, hot cars, kilns, heat guns, and open flame. Never put them in or on a kiln. You are responsible for checking that a part fits and is secure on your own equipment before trusting it with anything, and for supervising use around children and pets.

Replacements and liability

What I'll replace, and when, is on the returns and fit page. Beyond that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, Dirthead is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for damage to tools, equipment, work, or property arising from use or misuse of a product. Any liability that cannot be disclaimed is limited to the amount you actually paid for the item in question.

Your info, ideas & the fine print

How your details are collected, used and kept is explained in the Privacy notice. Product suggestions are submitted voluntarily and non-confidentially — I may build something similar without obligation or payment. Designs, text, and images on this site belong to Dirthead; please don't copy, resell, or reprint them. These terms may change without notice, are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts serving Los Angeles County. If any part is unenforceable, the rest still stands.

Questions about any of this: reach out at questions@dirtheadla.com and I'll get back to you.

Returns, fit & replacements

If it doesn't fit a wheel on my supported list, or it's broken when you get it, I'll replace it. If you just changed your mind, I can't take it back — everything is printed to order, one at a time.

If a hook doesn't fit

Within 7 days of pickup, email questions@dirtheadla.com with: a photo of the hook sitting on your splashpan lip, taken from the side so any gap shows; your wheel's make and model; your order number; and, if you can, a photo with a ruler on the lip (the hook is made for a lip about 0.35 in, or 0.9 cm, thick). If it doesn't fit a wheel on the supported list, bring the hook to me and I'll swap it for one that does. If I can't make one that fits, I'll refund what you paid for it.

If something is broken or faulty

Same 7 days. Email a photo showing the problem and your order number. Bring the damaged part to me when you collect its replacement.

Cancelling

Tell me before you pay and I'll cancel it; it costs nothing.

What I can't cover

Heat damage (a hot car, direct sun, a kiln, a heat gun, a dishwasher), drops and rough use, normal wear, and changing your mind. Wheels that aren't on the supported list aren't covered by the fit promise — email me the model first and I'll tell you straight whether it will work before you pay. Studios, schools and classrooms are covered the same as everyone else.

Orders you don't collect

I'll send two reminders. If I haven't heard from you 60 days after it's ready, I'll refund what you paid and may sell the item.

Questions

Not sure what to order, or whether it fits? Ask before you pay: questions@dirtheadla.com. See also the Terms.

Privacy

What this site collects, why, who else handles it, how long it's kept, and how to see or delete it. Effective September 30, 2026. What changed from the September 29, 2026 version: the shop pages now use Microsoft Clarity for session recordings and heatmaps (below).

Who you're dealing with

Dirthead is a one-person business in Los Angeles, California. Questions about your information go to questions@dirtheadla.com.

What I collect

When you send an order inquiry: your name, email address, phone number (optional), anything you write under “Anything else?”, and the products, colours and quantities on your list.

When you suggest a product: what you write, and your email address if you choose to give it.

If I give you a product: your name, what I gave you, and any contact details you share with me.

Automatically: your IP address, used to limit how often a form can be sent from one connection (stored only in scrambled form, for about a day) and by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals your browser sends — including your IP address and browser type — to tell people from automated spam. Turnstile runs silently on the forms and is used only to block spam; see Cloudflare's Turnstile Privacy Addendum. The site also gathers basic, cookie-free visit statistics (pages viewed, referring site, browser type, country) through Cloudflare Web Analytics.

Anonymous usage counts: to see which products people look at and where the site is confusing, the site counts how it is used — which pages and products are viewed, for how long and how far down, which buttons and links are pressed, which colours are picked, and whether a form was started or sent (never what you type into it). The steps of one visit are grouped by a random number that exists only while the page is open: it isn't stored on your device, isn't reused on your next visit, and isn't connected to your name, email or order. Each count also records the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer, judged from the screen width), the referring site or link tag, and the country and region Cloudflare places the visit in; your IP address is not kept. You can turn this off in this browser.

Session recordings and heatmaps (Microsoft Clarity): to see how people find their way around the shop, its pages use Microsoft Clarity. It records how a page is used — scrolling, clicks, taps and pointer movement, and which pages and products are shown — so I can replay a visit and see where people get stuck. What you type into the forms is never recorded: Clarity blanks form fields out before anything leaves your browser. It runs without cookies and with sharing for advertising switched off, so each visit is recorded on its own and isn't linked to your other visits by a cookie. Microsoft receives the recording together with your IP address and device and browser details, and handles them under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Clarity isn't loaded at all if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, or after you use the “turn this off” link above, which covers recordings too. The order confirmation page and the order dashboard never load it.

This site sets no cookies of its own. Your browser keeps your in-progress list on your own device so it survives a reload; it holds products only, not your name or contact details. If you turn off usage counting, your browser also remembers that choice.

Why I use it

To reply to your inquiry, confirm your order, arrange payment and pickup, and send the order emails (received, ready, payment received). To read and consider product suggestions — an email left with a suggestion is used only to tell you if that idea becomes a product. To keep the forms free of spam and the site working.

I don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles. I don't send marketing email. If a newsletter is ever added, it will be opt-in only, and this notice will be updated first.

Who else handles it

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and its database, runs the bot protection and visit statistics, and forwards email sent to @dirtheadla.com addresses. It receives everything you submit, your IP address and browser signals.

Resend sends the order emails, and the emails I send from @dirtheadla.com addresses. It receives your email address, your order details and the contents of those emails — not your phone number or notes.

Google (Gmail) holds the mailbox where emails to @dirtheadla.com addresses, and replies to my emails, arrive. It receives anything you write in an email to me.

Apple (iCloud) stores the backups of the order database that I keep.

Microsoft Corporation runs Clarity, the session-recording service described above. It receives the recording of how you use the shop pages, your IP address and your device and browser details — never what you type into the forms.

Product suggestions — the text only, never your email address — may be given to an AI assistant to help group similar ideas. I may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Tracking across other sites

No advertising or social-media trackers run on this site. Microsoft Clarity, described above, is the one outside service that sees how you use the pages; it is set up without cookies and with advertising sharing switched off, so it isn't used to follow you from site to site, but what Microsoft receives is handled under its own privacy statement. The services above keep their own technical logs under their own privacy policies.

How I respond to Do Not Track signals

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, the session-recording service (Microsoft Clarity) isn't loaded. Nothing else on this site tracks visitors across other websites, so everything else works the same for every visitor.

How long I keep it

Order and contact details: three years after your last order, then your name, email, phone and notes are deleted. Order amounts and items may be kept for up to four years without your name, for tax records. Gift records: the same three years. Suggestions: the idea may be kept; an email left with it is deleted when the idea is built or declined, or after three years at most. Rate-limiting records: about a day. Anonymous usage counts: three months. Microsoft Clarity keeps recordings for 30 days, and click and heatmap data — and any recording I mark to keep — for 9 months. Copies held by the services above expire on their own schedules — Resend keeps sent-email records for 30 days, and Cloudflare's database backups roll off after 7 days. Backup copies I keep myself — on my computer and in my Apple iCloud account — are deleted after a year.

Seeing, correcting or deleting your information

Email questions@dirtheadla.com from the address you used. I'll reply within 45 days, usually much sooner, and can tell you what I hold, correct it, or delete it. I may ask you to confirm the request from that address. Deletion removes it from the live database right away; backup copies expire within the periods above.

Children

This site isn't directed to children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.

Security

Everything you send travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The order dashboard is behind a login with a one-time code, and only I can reach it. No way of storing or sending information is completely secure.

Changes to this notice

Small changes (wording, layout, contact details) are posted here with a new effective date. If I change what I collect, why I use it, who receives it, or how long I keep it, I'll also show a notice on this site for 30 days and email the customers it affects. I won't use information collected before such a change in the new way without asking you first.

Privacy notice updated September 30, 2026: the shop now records how its pages are used, with Microsoft Clarity. What changed
